Dinner Diary Tidbit

I’ve been cooking, cooking, cooking in the Tasty Mayhem kitchen the last 24 hours: we are expecting 32 (or so people) for the fundraiser dinner on Saturday. The theme is Italy and shhhhhh, don’t tell anyone, but its my favorite.  Cooking Italian always feels like a homecoming even if I’m not making any of my part-Italian grandmother’s favorite dishes. I love the range of flavors across the different regions and the use of seasonal ingredients. And there is another fun element: Southerners and Italians are food soul-sisters;

  • Adding pork products to flavor everything from other meats to vegetables
  • Grits = Polenta
  • A little something sweet is good anytime of day
  • Beans? Yes please.
  • Rice dishes can be a meal unto themselves
  • Ingredients from the garden, the farm market and the wild pickings drive what ends up on the plate
